We WON!

Last night, some friends and I met for dinner and to watch the election results together. We sat on the edges of our seats as decision after decision was made and, although we were were dismayed with what, of course, seemed an inevitable presidential outcome, we were thrilled with the passing of Prop 8!

I realize many do not see it this way, but I see this as a great success for democracy, freedom, and the rights of everyone. That fact that four judges overturned the will of 61% of the people in the first place, and that activists then decided to go ahead and prepare curriculum teaching gay marriage to children of all ages in schools without consent of parents was in direct opposition to the ideals this country is supposed to stand for. Through civil unions, same-sex couples retain all of the legal rights married couples are entitled to but, with this victory, religious institutions are able to also retain their rights to free speech, freedom of religion, and parents have the right to teach their children according to their own values.

I'm aware that these activists will not quit and that, at some point in time, they may find a way to get the supreme court to undo our decision but, regardless, we have fought for our freedoms and the people's will was heard. I love this country and hope its citizens will recognize and be grateful for the many blessings we enjoy while living here!

God bless the USA!
